Claris FileMaker | REALVIEW Installation, IT Software Deployment, Ports

Download links for Windows, macOS, and mobile devices, manual or unattended installation, Microsoft Intune, Citrix, and the required firewall rules.

Our tool is based on the Windows and macOS devices of the Claris FileMaker platform; for this reason, it is installed on these devices, which are then used to connect to our servers. For the initial connection/installation and for continued use, it is essential that the ports and servers (listed below) are allowed through the network (firewall).

Which version do you need?

Your Situation File
Individual workstations, manual installation .exe
Unattended deployment, in-house software deployment, Microsoft Intune .msi

Prerequisite: Visual C++ Runtime

FileMaker requires the Microsoft Visual C++ 2015–2022 Redistributable (x64). It is already installed on most computers because other programs include it. It is missing on freshly set up devices.

How to tell if Microsoft Visual C++ is missing

The installation reports that it completed successfully, but when you launch FileMaker, an error message appears such as “mfc140u.dll not found” or “MSVCP140.dll not found”.

Download from Microsoft: vc_redist.x64.exe (x64)

Installation without prompts:

vc_redist.x64.exe /install /quiet /norestart
Check in PowerShell to see if it's already installed:
Get-ItemProperty 'HKLM:\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\*','HKLM:\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\*' | Where-Object DisplayName -like '*Visual C++*' | Select DisplayName
If there is no output, it is missing.

Unattended Installation (Silent)

Use the MSI file for this. It already contains everything: license, language, and server address.

The Command Prompt must run as an administrator

Press the Windows key, type cmd, then right-click → Run as administrator. The prompt must show C:\WINDOWS\system32>, not your user folder.

Without administrator privileges, the installation will abort at /qn with Error 1603—without any message. The reason: FileMaker requires elevated privileges, and during a silent installation, Windows cannot prompt for them.

First test computer, with progress bar:

msiexec /i "C:\Pfad\REALVIEW_FileMaker_Win_21.1.3.301_x64_silent.msi" /qb+

Rollout, without any notification:

msiexec /i "C:\Pfad\REALVIEW_FileMaker_Win_21.1.3.301_x64_silent.msi" /qn

Installation takes 5 to 10 minutes. The path must be located on a writable drive—it will not work from a read-only share or an ISO image.

After installation: Manually launch FileMaker Pro once—look for it in the Start menu. The REALVIEW desktop shortcut will not appear until the user logs in the next time.

Unattended Uninstallation

msiexec /x "C:\Pfad\REALVIEW_FileMaker_Win_21.1.3.301_x64_silent.msi" /qn

If the MSI is no longer available, you can also go to Settings → Apps → FileMaker Pro → Uninstall. The saved REALVIEW login is retained in both cases.

Microsoft Intune#

Upload the MSI file as a line-of-business app. No installation commands or detection rules are required—Intune reads the product code, version, and uninstallation information directly from the file.

  1. In Intune: Apps → Windows → Add → Line-of-business app
  2. Upload the MSI file
  3. Leave the Command-line arguments field blank—all settings are already included in the file
  4. Assign it to the group

Increase the timeout. The installation takes 5 to 10 minutes. Set the timeout to 60 minutes; otherwise, Intune will abort an installation that is still in progress and report a non-existent error.

After installation: Manually launch FileMaker Pro once—search for it in the Start menu. The REALVIEW desktop shortcut will not appear until the user logs in the next time.

Citrix

When installing via Citrix, the folder must be included in each user’s Local directory; otherwise, the autologin will not be saved. The rvconfig file is particularly important, as that is where the login is stored.

Absolute path:

C:\Users\~\AppData\Local\FileMaker\FileMaker Pro
For Citrix Profile Management, relative to the user profile:
AppData\Local\FileMaker\FileMaker Pro

When using Citrix Profile Management, you can configure the synchronization of specific files and folders in a user profile between the system on which the profile is installed and the user’s storage. To do this, use the policy settings Directories to Synchronize or Files to Synchronize. These paths must be relative to the user profile.

Here is the document from Citrix: Policy Settings for Synchronization

Note: All of these policies can be configured via both the administration console and the INI file. If not configured, Profile Management falls back to the value configured in the INI file.

Ports and IP Addresses

For our tool to work, TCP/IP port 5003 must be opened in both the network firewall and the PC’s firewall. The following ports must be enabled:

Protokoll Port
TCP/IP 5003
HTTP 80
HTTPS 443

Generally, you only need the server where your data is stored. If you'd like to know which servers you need to open up, please contact REALVIEW Support.

IP-Adresse Hostname
198.21.4.171 mailing.realview.ch
185.90.37.93 server.realview.ch
185.90.37.95 server11.realview.ch
185.90.37.154 server14.realview.ch

185.90.37.28 server28.realview.ch
185.90.37.39 server29.realview.ch

Optionally, the entire range can also be allowed: 185.90.37.0/24

Since the latest REALVIEW installers (EXE and MSI), a local Windows Firewall rule for FileMaker Pro.exe (inbound, TCP and UDP) is also created automatically. As a result, no Windows security prompt appears the first time the application is launched, eliminating the need for a manual step on each PC. This only affects the device’s local Windows Firewall, not the network ports to the REALVIEW servers mentioned above; these must still be opened as described.

Checking the Connection

To verify that the connection is working, you can access the desired server via PowerShell:

Test-NetConnection server11.realview.ch -Port 5003 -InformationLevel Detailed

If the connection still does not work, contact your Internet service provider (ISP). In some cases, ISPs activate an additional firewall for business networks, which also requires the ports to be opened.
