Claris FileMaker | REALVIEW does not start, license expired
Learn how to start Claris FileMaker and resolve the issue when there is a licensing problem.
On some Windows workstations, FileMaker may currently fail to start or display a message stating that the licence has expired.
Cause
The standard user does not have write permissions for the FileMaker licence folder. As a result, FileMaker cannot update the (valid) licence stored there. The licence and data are valid – there is no actual licence expiration.
Affected path – Solution: C:\ProgramData\FileMaker\FileMaker Pro\21\
If you do not have administrator rights, please contact your IT department.
Immediate solution (single workstation)
Start FileMaker by right-clicking it and selecting Run as Administrator.
Permanent solution: Set write permissions
Install the latest version of Claris FileMaker with administrator rights using the link below:
Permanent solution for IT
You can execute the following command once with administrator rights via CMD or PowerShell to apply the fix directly for multiple users:
icacls "C:\ProgramData\FileMaker" /grant "*S-1-5-32-545:(OI)(CI)M" /T
Afterwards, FileMaker will start without requiring administrator rights.
Notes
- icacls is available on every Windows installation.
- Changing permissions requires administrator rights – a standard user without administrator privileges cannot execute the command.
-
The icalcs command can be deployed to all affected clients via GPO / Intune / RMM, or through a deployment script running as SYSTEM.
